Guatemala has one of the highest poverty rates in Latin America. Chronic malnutrition leading to stunted growth is common in children throughout the region and lack of access to education negatively affects the ability of families to find productive employment to rise out of this poverty.

In 2017 our donors’ support helped the Sisters of Mary to run Children’s Villages to support boys and girls out of their lives of poverty. The villages for Boys (Zona 6) and for Girls (Zona 13) in Guatemala provide live-in middle and high school education to 2,027 boys and girls living in the most extreme poverty, whose ages range from 12 to 18.
