Work Experience
November saw the senior boys in Amarateca, Honduras start their work experience at local companies.
Work experience allows our students to use the skills they have learnt at school in real life applications. All while gaining experience of what it’s like to work in a real job. Often the companies where the students work will offer them a full time job once they have completed their schooling. Our students are in high demand from employers due to their high level of education and reliability.
The Sisters maintain good relationships with the employers and ensure that all the children are fairly paid and the work places are run by reputable employers. This gives our students the best chance at expanding their skillsets and keeps them safe.
Sports and events
November saw our children at all the schools continuing their love of sports and other extra curricular activities. These are a vital part of their growth and well being at school. Developing a range of new talents and finding new hobbies to enjoy keeps the children happy. These activities also teach important lessons about teamwork, endurance and resilience.
Our children are enthusiastic and ambitious, keen to challenge themselves and compete in everything they do inside and outside the classroom and they achieve impressive successes.
The girls’ field hockey teams from Chalco, Mexico, took first and second place at the National Hockey championships and first at the Handball Fest. At the National Taekwondo Championships, the girls were rated as exceptional amongst the 176 schools that took part. Our marching band was also part of the opening ceremony.
In Guadalajara, Mexico, our boys participated in a local chess competition and won awards at the mathematics Olympiad!
Success around the world
In the Philippines, our Talisay Girls were judged Champions in the Math Quiz 8 & 9 and Damath 7 in the Division Math Expo and our Adlas Boys participated in Mathematch 2024, the ASMEPPS Regional Math and Science Trivia contest, held online, as well as participating in the 1st Taekwondo Mission Championships.
Near Cavite, our Biga girls participated in the Panlalawigan Mind Challenge, the Sports Division Meet, the Choir competition and in National athletics Batang Pinoy; and in Minglanilla our boys were thrilled to participate in the 8th National Wildlife quiz as well as the municipal sports competition.
In Guatemala, our Zona 13 Girls competed in the PAGMO (Pan American Girls´ Mathematics Olympiad Competition) held in Durango Mexico. Two of our students represented Guatemala and in Honduras at PAGMO. Our boys in Amarateca won the football “Playing for Education” Tournament, also winning best goalkeeper, top scorer and best team.
Graduations
In November we celebrated the graduation of hundreds of our final year students.
In Honduras 292 children graduated, 108 girls and 164 boys. In Brasilia, 128 girls graduated, all of them skilled and ready for work.
We are so very proud of our students who will now go on to employment in order to support themselves and their families.
Community outreach continues
During November, the Sisters continued their community outreach work, this time in Brazil. The Sisters visited the Xavantes Indigenous tribe in the Mato Grosso region. This tribe has no educational support and so the Sisters hope to offer the chance of an education to these impoverished families so that their children can eventually find good employment to support their families and tribes.
The Sisters do all they can to visit as many rural communities and regions in Brazil to reach the poorest children most in need. It’s only thanks to your support that the Sisters are able to do this vital work.
School activities
November was a busy season for the boys and girls lucky enough to be in our schools.
The girls in Mexico had a visit from the National Rugby team to help with their sports motivation. The boys in Guadalajara worked hard tending to a new flock of hens being nurtured at the school and harvesting corn, all to improve their sustainable food production for the school and help the Sisters with the costs of caring for them.
In Guatemala, the girls in Zona 13 had an orientation talk on careers on Electronics from INTECAP and attended a CV writing seminar by Grubo Ceiba, whilst in Honduras there was a fashion show of the designs made by our very own school girls in Tegucigalpa.
In Tanzania, the girls in Kisarawe distributed bread made at the school into the poorest communities in Dar Es Salaam and at our newest programme, in Dodoma, the boys celebrated months of hard work learning new agricultural and farming skills, with a bumper harvest of peppers for the kitchen.
Exams!
November also saw the National exams being taken in many of our schools. An important milestone for children who have previously had so little access to education. Our boys and girls work hard for these exams. They are the gateway to a better future for them and ensure they can progress their education to the next grade and be ready for employment when they graduate from school.
In Brazil, the senior girls sat their National Secondary assessment exam and in Tanzania Kisarawe Girlstown, our Form 4 girls sat their national exam thanks to the kindness of our donors who supported our Big Give exams appeal to pay for these exams back in October.
