We are deeply saddened to report the passing yesterday of Sister Michaela Kim.
Sister Michaela died peacefully in Busan, South Korea on 28 March surrounded by her Sisters of Mary. Her funeral will be held on this Saturday, 30th March.
Sister Michaela (shown here on the left with Sister Maria), was the first Superior General of the Sisters of Mary and the successor to the Founder, Venerable Aloysius Schwartz.
She was a person of incredible humility, courage and dedication. She touched the lives and hearts of so many poor children with her selfless work for the most disadvantaged in society. Through her, the work of the Sisters of Mary lives on in the schools around the world and in the care of over 20,000 children each year. More than 150,000 children have had their lives of poverty transformed through the opportunity of these programmes and the care provided by the Sisters of Mary.
It was my greatest privilege to meet Mother Michaela in Busan in November 2017 and I was deeply moved by her gentle disposition and her continued hard work in the community with the Sisters and the children long after she had passed the age for retirement. I will treasure that memory for ever.
Please say a prayer for the soul of Sister Michaela and for all the Sisters of Mary at this difficult time.
