A new greenhouse

At our Sisters of Mary school in Guadalajara, Mexico, our boys are studying hard to learn new agricultural skills and at the same time help the Sisters grow more of their own produce.

Together, they are providing a regular supply of fresh fruit and vegetables for the school kitchen ensuring a balanced diet for all the children. However, the Sisters urgently need a greenhouse to protect these precious crops, aid the boys in their learning, help increase production and address the rising cost of buying food for the children.

The school has enough dedicated land for the crops and the frame for an old greenhouse but this must be moved and covered to make it functional.

“We seek to provide an agricultural workshop for our children and at the same time too we hope to improve our self-sufficiency” – Sr Hortencia, Guadalajara Boystown

The greenhouse will serve multiple purposes

  • To grow food for the school kitchens, reduce the food bill and make the school more self-sufficient
  • To serve as an agricultural training ground for children who want to pursue a career in agriculture or just learn enough to help their families
  • To be a place for the boys to spend free time after school, enjoying nature and gardening – which benefits their mental health

Our aim

To fund the agricultural quality covering needed to complete this greenhouse in Guadalajara, move it to its final location and make it secure and operational for the boys. In Chalco Girlstown, completed greenhouses already ensure the school is self-sufficient, environmentally sustainable and teaches skills for future careers for the most vulnerable young women.

Can you help us do this for the poorest boys in Mexico too?
