Scouting for Tanzanian Boys

In June, Dodoma Boys School was pleased to welcome a visit from the Tanzanian Scouting Association. This first time visit was an opportunity for our boys to learn basic but vital scouting skills like first aid, practical crafts, survival training and teamwork. All these skills are crucial for life.

At World Villages for Children, we believe that providing children with a well-rounded education is essential. It’s not enough to just teach them academic and vocational skills to help them find work; we also need to equip them with the skills that will help them to develop as independent and  productive adults and serve them well throughout their lives.

This holistic approach ensures that the children we support grow into confident, capable, and compassionate human beings who know the importance of helping others, of being reliable, and of taking initiative – lessons that are just as vital.

Japanese ministry of education visits Talisay

During the month the girls in Talisay (Philippines), were honoured to host a visit from officials of the Japanese Ministry of Education. They came to see the impactful work being done at the school, particularly our Japanese language classes which prepare our children for job opportunities in that country.

The Japanese classes are part of a comprehensive vocational approach, ensuring that our students are prepared for their careers as soon as they graduate. This goes hand-in-hand with our core belief that education should be a direct path to a self-sufficient, dignified life. By investing in practical skills and language training, we’re empowering these young women to not only secure a job that helps them, but to also lift their families out of poverty for good.

Chess in Brazil

For the girls at our school in Brasilia, playing chess is much more than a hobby. In June, they participated in a local district chess competition, and their hard work paid off. They’ve now qualified to compete at the national level!  Providing children with hobbies outside of the classroom is nurturing for both their academic and intellectual growth.

This amazing achievement is a testament to the girls’ dedication and the quality of the education they receive. By offering extracurricular activities like chess, we’re giving these children a chance to develop their talents and unlock their full potential. The strategic skills and mental discipline they’re gaining will prepare them for a successful future, enabling them to confidently face the world and become leaders in their communities.

Amarateca & Tegucigalpa Students Triumph at Korean Ambassador Cup

In June, our students from Amarateca Boystown and Tegucigalpa Girlstown showcased their dedication and martial arts skill at the prestigious Korean Ambassador Cup, a testament to the power of martial arts in transforming lives. The competition was a resounding success, with our young athletes bringing home a remarkable number of medals.

The  students from Amarateca Boystown competed with exceptional discipline and determination. Out of the 28 participants, they earned an impressive 20 medals. This includes five gold, four silver, and 11 bronze medals. Their success isn’t just about winning; it’s a powerful reflection of the discipline, perseverance, and focus that Tae Kwon Do instils. These young men have channelled their energy into a positive outlet, building self-confidence and respect.

The girls from Tegucigalpa Girlstown also won many first, second, and third-place medals relishing these diverse opportunities for growth. Martial arts, like Tae Kwon Do, teach our young women crucial life skills such as goal-setting, stress relief, and conflict resolution. Beyond the medals, they are learning to work together, support one another, and be resilient through challenges, preparing them for a brighter future.
