July was a busy month at all the schools. In Mexico 300 students from the Chalco Girls school and 226 Guadalajara Boys school students graduated from school! These young men and women will now go on to find good, steady jobs , in fact many of them will already have job offers thanks to the job fairs that the Sisters of Mary arrange each year to help the students find work swiftly.
At the Kiluvya Trainee Centre another batch of young women graduated. With their new practical skills in areas such as baking, tailoring and electronics, these women will be able to start their own businesses or find good steady work in order to provide for their family. Thanks to our supporters these women who once had no marketable skills will now be able to take control of their lives and work towards a better future for themselves and their families.

In Brazil and Tanzania the children enjoyed visits from their family in July. Those who managed to make the long journeys to see their children were amazed by the changes school has brought. The children proudly showed off their new friends, their academic achievements and new practical projects while enjoying the company of their loved ones.
Having their children so far away from them is often hard for the families, but they know how much their children will benefit from the education that they themselves were denied. An education doesn’t only benefit their children, in the long run it impacts the entire family. Alumni end up financially supporting their families, paying for the education of their siblings and lifting the entire family out of poverty in what we call “The Multiplier Effect”.

In July students from our schools in Guatemala took part in their annual science fairs, a fantastic opportunity to showcase the knowledge and practical skills they’ve developed throughout the year. These events are more than just a competition; they are a vital way for our children to see how their classroom learning connects to the wider world around them and to meet future employers.
The fairs were a fantastic display of creativity and curiosity. Students from both our Boys and Girls schools presented a wide range of projects, from environmental conservation models to demonstrations of basic physics principles. The enthusiasm and confidence with which they explained their work were truly inspiring. This hands-on experience is crucial for our students, as it teaches them to think critically, solve problems, and work collaboratively—skills that are essential for success in any career path once they graduate.

The Sisters are always busy doing community outreach to meet the next group of children to welcome to their schools. Their travels take them to the most impoverished regions of the countries they work in. These regions are often remote and difficult for the Sisters to reach but the Sisters know that every child deserves an education and so they ford rivers, cross lakes and traverse jungles to find the children most in need of an education.
None of this would be possible without our supporters. With your help we can provide a place at school for one more child – that is one more family and community lifted from poverty – thank you.
