The Sisters have been out visiting some of the remotest regions in the Philippines, specifically in the regions of Talisay & Cavite. These long and arduous journeys are all in aid of finding children most in need of attending school. Most of the children in these remote areas would not be able to attend secondary school as they would be expected to food in order to feed their family.
The Sisters offer a way out of poverty for these children who would be destined to suffer the same poverty that their families have struggled in for generations. None of this would be done without our generous supporters and the untiring work of the Sisters of Mary.

Sports are a big part of the children’s lives at school. Alongside their mental development at school we also provide healthy physical activities so that the children grow up with hobbies and the knowledge of how to keep fit!
The sports they learn at school are also excellent ways to teach teamwork and for the children to discover their own self-worth. As part of this the children enter many competitions both locally and nationally. Some highlights from this moth includes; Guadalajara Boystown winning first place in various sports at a local meet and Tegucigalpa Girlstown coming third in Basketball competition while going on to win first, second and third place in a swimming competition.

Our Supporter Enrique, who is originally from Mexico, who enjoys dedicating his unique challenges to support the work of the Sisters, has recently returned from a visit to our girls and boys schools in Mexico. We caught up so he could share his impressions about his time at the schools.
“I was looking forward to bringing them this new idea of sharing my next unique challenge. The idea is to have the children swimming relays in their pools, whilst I swim the Straits of Gibraltar, and dedicate that swim to the work of WVC and the Sisters of Mary.
As ever the Sisters and children received me with open arms and dedicated time for me to meet the children. It is always a stimulating feeling to be amongst these young minds. Having all these children looking at me with such eagerness, keen and interested to learn.
I never met these kids before I came to the Sisters but I know the situation they come from, the extreme poverty they come from, that is never far in Mexico. So, one appreciates the contrast the Sisters bring to their lives.”

“Last time I visited Chalco was in December 2023. I came back to London telling everyone that I was very glad to be there because I recognise the schools as a bastion of innocence. I can see how growing up with the Sisters, gives these young adults a fighting chance of keeping innocence, whilst growing in intellect, in the world – and that’s the challenge.
These children coming from the most neglected, obscured, abused, parts of my Mexico, sunk into the misery that extreme poverty brings. Yet, under the care of the Sisters of Mary, I see these children growing into young adults, yes capable of engaging in the economy and breaking the cycle of poverty, which is good and noble. But above that, I see children growing into young adults capable of loving one another.
And that is the greatest realisation of my visit. The Villages are not only bastions of innocence, but building sites for the Kingdom of Heaven, here on Earth.”
