Girls from Zona 13 wearing bunny ears and holding carrots celebrate Easter 2021

Easter Celebrations

This weekend, we celebrate Easter in all of our schools around the world.

It is a very happy time for all our children and a chance for them to reflect and give thanks for their new start in life and the opportunities they can enjoy at school.

This Easter celebration is particularly poignant for one of our newest students, Helena.

Helena's story

Helena comes from Tabora, Tanzania, and is the third of six children. Helena recently lost her mother and she and her brothers and sisters were left in the care of their father, who is unemployed and struggles with alcoholism.

Living in a one-bedroom home with no proper sanitation, water or enough money for food, Helena and her siblings faced a struggle for survival every day. It was a bleak existence, but thankfully, this January we were able to welcome Helena into our Kisarawe Girlstown school. where she will be well cared for and have a good education. She now has hope for a better future for her and for her brothers and sisters.

Give a gift to bring kindness and joy to a child this Easter

On Easter Sunday, like all our other girls and boys, Helena will receive a small Easter basket containing vital fruit, health supplements, and toiletries such as soap or shampoo. These are basic necessities to us, but luxuries to our children.

It is an established Easter tradition at all our schools to provide this gesture of love to our children who have known so little kindness.  For Helena and our other boys and girls, this will be the first time they have ever received a gift. Our deprived children have had little of their own, most come from families where food is rationed, clothing and shoes are shared by multiple children and where they take turns to sleep in the one bed. So a personal gift, will bring untold joy.

You can support girls and boys like Helena by donating to our Easter appeal below.

Easter Appeal

This Easter, help us support the children in our care with a donation. Just £10 will help buy a traditional Easter gift for one of our children, containing essential supplies and health supplements, bringing a smile to a child’s face.
