“Before enrolling at this wonderful school, I felt I couldn’t look forward to a future as my low-income family couldn’t afford to provide me with an education but I still had the desire and wish to study and then in 2008 I got a great opportunity to travel to the capital city and study in a wonderful place called the Villa de Los Niños in Zone 06.

When I arrived at the school I understood that I had the opportunity of a lifetime to continue with my studies and fight for my dreams. For me, Villa de los Niños will always be my school, and I remember it fondly. It was and is a great family to me. When I started at the school my life changed. Through the teachers and the Sisters of Mary, I realized that as a child I was destined to achieve everything I set out to do in life. This was thanks to the winning mentality, the effective, emotional, and spiritual motivation I received in addition to my academic training.

I was excited and happy to receive the high-quality education and excel in sports like track and field and other activities during my stay. Additionally, I had the opportunity to be a leader for my classmates, motivating and supporting them so that together we could achieve our dreams.”

“Thanks to my good performance and high grades at the Villa de Los Niños, I obtained a scholarship to Rafael Landívar University in 2012 and managed to complete university with a Bachelor’s Degree in Business Administration in 2017, working and studying every day.

In 2018, I managed to obtain a scholarship from the University of Valladolid and Banco Santander to pursue a master’s degree in Accounting and Financial Management. I learned a lot and learned new cultures, successfully completing my studies. After a year, I returned and started working again at Banco Agromercantil de Guatemala”.

Today Milton remains at the Bank and lives in San José Pinula, Guatemala. He has a wife and two daughters, and he has been recently promoted. He says “during my academic career, I was motivated by the desire to excel and fight for my dreams, and I never gave up because I wanted to prove to myself and all my family that anything could be possible with effort, discipline, and dedication.

“I urge all students who have the opportunity to study at Villa de los Niños to take advantage of everything they can learn from the teachers, from the Sisters of Mary who dedicate their time and lives to Guatemalan youth, and, above all, when they enter the workforce, to dare to pursue their dreams and achieve whatever they set out to do in life.

I would like to express my profound gratitude to the Sisters and all, who with great enthusiasm and effort lead a great educational institution and make an indispensable contribution to ensuring that thousands of Guatemalan children and young people have the opportunity to receive a high-quality education and I would especially like to thank the supporters who, with great effort, affection, and financial resources, contribute to this noble cause and allow the Children’s Village to continue educating and nurturing young people who, thanks to this, can obtain and generate opportunities that allow them to lead a dignified life for themselves and their families, and who become agents of change for society.”
