Thanks to the help of our dedicated and generous supporters, we were able to raise a total of £21,519 to upgrade and purchase these tools and machining equipment for our students’ engineering workshops in Adlas Boystown in the Philippines.
We were able to purchase:
Each of these tools is already in use at our workshop in Adlas Boystown, teaching boys the skills they need on up-to-date equipment that is current to industry standards. Knowing these skills and being able to use this equipment well is an essential part of their future employment and adds immense value to their education. The photos below show the tangible results of your generosity. The largest of these items is the CNC machine (right).
A CNC Machine, or computer numerical control machine, is the machine used in automated control of machining tools such as lathes, mills, grinders, routers, 3D printing etc. These machines process materials such as wood, metal, ceramic, and others using coded programmed instructions without the need for manual operation of the machining operation. This is a highly specialised skill used in many industries such as the automotive industry.
Having these specialised skills and knowledge gives our children real, practical skills to find good employment that is non-exploitative and pays them a living wage immediately after they finish school. It is a means for them to support themselves and their families.
