Easter Celebrations

Easter at the schools was a time of joy for the children, a chance for them to enjoy the freedom of childhood away from the hardships of poverty that they have experienced at home.

Alongside a special Easter celebration, the children received a modest gift bag containing books, a t-shirt and toiletries. The Easter gift also contained essential vitamins and supplements to help our children recover their health and begin to thrive at school.

These gifts are modest to you and I but for these children they may be the first gifts they’ve ever received and a chance for the children to be cared for with the dignity and respect they deserve.

Graduations

April was a chance to celebrate the culmination of 5 years of secondary schooling and the graduation of the students in the Philippines.

310 boys graduated from Adlas,  346 from Biga, 449 girls from Talisay  and 338 boys in Minglanilla. That’s 1443 children lifted out of poverty and provided with a secondary education that will allow them to find well paid, reliable and local jobs so they can help their families out of poverty – permanently.

All of this is possible only because of the generosity of our supporters.

Thank you!

New visitors and preparing for employment

In April a number of the schools around the world received special visitors. In Honduras, the boys in Amarateca, welcomed the Apostolic Nuncio, Monsignore Simon Bolivar Sanchez and in Zona 6 Guatemala, the boys were thrilled to welcome the Managing Director of DIGEEX, Ministry of Education in Guatemala. This official visit is an important part of the accreditation of the education offered by the schools and always a chance to show off the exemplary standard of education being offered by the Sisters.

Later in April, the boys and girls in Guatemala also enjoyed a mechanics fair at the school – an introduction to these jobs available locally and a chance to meet up with new and existing employers including representatives of Toyota Cofino Stahl.

Sisters at work in the community

During the month, the Sisters continued their community outreach in the most remote locations of Guatemala, visiting impoverished communities to identify children most in need of education. These visits involve traveling long distances to reach very challenging areas and the families living in the most extreme poverty. These children have no access to schooling.

Meeting hundreds of children the Sisters interview each one to assess individual circumstances and determine which vulnerable children would most benefit from the holistic care and quality education at their schools.

These dedicated Sisters know education breaks the cycle of poverty. Children are offered a place at their live-in schools in Zona 6 and Zona 13 Guatemala, there, they receive free accredited education, nutritious food, medical care, and a safe environment, empowering them to build a brighter future.
