In November 2025 our fantastic supporter Enrique completed the gruelling 22km swim around Acapulco Bay, Mexico. Known as one of the pioneering open water marathon events, with worldwide participation, Enrique’s aim was to swim the challenge in less than nine hours.
Enrique achieved this enormous challenge, swimming 22,000 metres, solo. More than 22,000 strokes, one for each of the 22,000 children under the care of the Sisters of Mary and using the challenge as another opportunity to raise money for World Villages for Children’s programmes. Enrique funded the enormous endeavour himself, ensuring that every penny he raised went directly towards the care of the 22,000 children.

We remain so in awe of Enrique for the completion of this challenge and for all of his endeavours! For Mexico, he trained hard throughout 2025, taking part in a three person team to swim across the English Channel in August.
In September 2025, Enrique also participated in the Swim Serpentine event to raise money for World Villages for Children and to keep his training going. To make the challenge harder he did the whole thing swimming butterfly! At the end he grabbed the attention of the crowds by emerging from the water, waving the flag for World Villages for Children. He was thrilled to be invited to become a member of the prestigious Serpentine Swimming Club and did his inaugural swim there on on a wet and windy Thursday in late October. Enrique said it was “an invigorating shot, ahead of the Acapulco challenge, just what the doctor ordered!”

Enrique trained hard with the coaches of the swimming chapter of the Manchester Triathlon Club in preparation for Acapulco and then in November he absolutely smashed the Acapulco Bay swim with a time of 7 Hours 19 Minutes 05 Seconds! Far exceeding his target of nine hours. Our Sisters and the children around the world particularly in Mexico cheered him on. We are so grateful and humbled by Enrique’s support for the work of the Sisters of Mary and World Villages for Children and we await, with anticipation, his next challenge in 2026!
